Learn about aerating your lawn
Aerating your lawn involves perforating the soil with holes to allow air, water, and nutrients to penetrate deep into the root zone. Here are several benefits of aerating your lawn:
1. Improved Soil Aeration: Aeration increases the amount of air that can reach the roots of grass, promoting healthier growth and development.
2. Enhanced Nutrient Uptake: By improving soil structure, aeration allows fertilizers and other nutrients to penetrate deeper into the soil, making them more accessible to grass roots.
3. Better Water Infiltration: Aeration helps reduce water runoff and improves the soil’s ability to absorb water, which can lead to a healthier lawn, especially during dry periods.
4. Reduction of Soil Compaction: Compacted soil can hinder root growth and water absorption. Aeration alleviates compaction, allowing roots to expand and access more resources.
5. Stronger Root System: With improved aeration, grass roots can grow deeper and stronger, leading to a more resilient lawn that can better withstand drought, heat, and foot traffic.
6. Enhanced Thatch Breakdown: Thatch is a layer of dead grass and roots that can accumulate on the soil surface. Aeration helps break down thatch more efficiently, reducing its thickness and promoting a healthier lawn.
7. Improved Microbial Activity: Aeration creates an environment that encourages beneficial microorganisms in the soil, which can help decompose organic matter and improve soil health.
8. Increased Lawn Tolerance: A well-aerated lawn can better tolerate stress from extreme weather conditions, pests, and diseases.
9. Promotion of New Growth: Aeration encourages the growth of new grass shoots and can rejuvenate thin or patchy areas, leading to a lusher lawn.
10. Easier Lawn Maintenance: With improved soil health and structure, your lawn may require less frequent watering and fertilization, making it easier to maintain.

We recommend leaving the pellets in the yard due to the fact there is still nutrients in them. The pellets will stay in the yard for 2-3 weeks after aerating but will naturally level back out with mowing and watering.
